To earn your Postpartum Doula Certification, you must complete the following requirements:
Core Training Requirements:
Course Completion (30) hr training: Complete our comprehensive Postpartum Doula Training course.
Clinical Hours: Accumulate 600 hours of hands-on experience supporting postpartum families. This experience can be gained through:
Client Support: Providing direct care to postpartum families, including newborn care, maternal care, and family support.
Clinical Rotations: Participating in supervised clinical rotations at hospitals, birthing centers, or home birth settings.
Volunteer Work: Volunteering with organizations that support postpartum families.
CPR Certification: Maintain a current CPR certification for infants and adults.
Additional Requirements to Become Certified Postpartum Doula:
An applicant for certification under this article shall do all of the following: provide department-approved written documentation of both of the following: attending at least three births while serving as the primary doula support person and receiving a department-approved and acceptable evaluation from the laboring mother and from the medical provider who assisted the laboring mother.
Written Exam: Pass a written exam demonstrating knowledge of postpartum care, newborn care, maternal health, family support, and relevant ethical guidelines.
Client Reviews: Submit positive client reviews or letters of recommendation from at least five families you have supported.
Professional Liability Insurance: Maintain professional liability insurance coverage.
Certification: Included in the cost of the training for the first 2 years.
Recertification: Every 2 years, you will need to renew your certification with a continued education course; the cost to renew is $69
Certification Process:
Complete Course and Clinical Hours: Successfully finish and accumulate the required clinical hours.
Submit Documentation: Provide proof of course completion, clinical hours, CPR certification, and client reviews.
Pass Written Exam: Write an essay about what a postpartum doula means to you.
Once you are a Certified Postpartum Doula, you will be able to apply to be part of Medicaid.
